Easter is Coming

Took delivery, from a well-known Scottish online butcher, of the lamb for our Easter Sunday lunch. It's my favourite meal of the year, the kids are all home from the big smoke with lots of stories and with a few pals thrown in too, it will be a quiet lunch for 14.

Maybe it’s because it doesn’t have the build-up that Christmas does - it’s not a whole day affair - it’s a lot more fun and you don’t slump in a chair stuffed and exhausted at the end of it. I’m not a great one for food and wine matching, my cooking or palate is not so nuanced that I worry about picking out every last flavour in the meal or the wine. I am happy with a “that smells/ tastes great” from the assembled dinners, empty plates and glasses does it for me.

So our Red of choice will be an American Cabernet Sauvignon from Chateau Ste Michelle. This is Washington’s oldest winery with the vineyards in Eastern Washington where the long hot summers produce great big smooth wines packed with fruit. It will go down very well with the slow cooked lamb.

At £14.00 it’s not the cheapest and I could get cheaper meat but if you can’t treat your family, your pals and yourself what’s the point?
